Ryan Spagnoli | Pats Militia: New England has acquired Brandin Cooks in a blockbuster deal with the New Orleans Saints.
According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the Patriots have acquired Wide Receiver Brandin Cooks and the Saints 4th round pick in exchange for New England’s first and third round picks.
The twenty-three year old Cooks is coming off back to back 100+ catches and 1,000+ yard seasons in New Orleans and is under team control until after the 2018 season.
This deal is a steal for New England considering they kept Malcolm Butler, who’s name was rumored in a potential trade for Cooks, in this deal.
Cooks ability to be a deep threat mixed in with Gronk’s ability to open up the field, it will be almost impossible for opposing defenses to cover all these New England weapons.
New England’s offense is now 100x scarier than it was this past season. They kept all their offensive starters that just won them a Super Bowl, get Gronkowski back and just added a deep threat in Cooks.
It will be interesting to see if the Patriots will now trade Jimmy Garoppolo to the Browns to regain the first round pick or if they’ll let Malcolm Butler walk to get their first round pick back.
Either way, the New England Patriots got a hundred times better today.
