Gronk In; Jamie Collins Out

It’s gameday and the injury reports are flying.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network has reported that Julian Edelman, Martellus Bennett, and Rob Gronkowski will all suit up today.

Mike Reiss of ESPN also confirmed that Gronk will be out there against the Bengals.

However, (via Adam Schefter) he too confirmed that Jamie Collins will not play today.

Collins was added to the injury report on Thursday with a hip injury and I guess it’s just too much for him to strap up the pads. As Mike Reiss tweeted, this should allow for substantially more playing time for Elandon Roberts.

Roberts played well last week and this could be an opportunity for him to further prove himself as a worthy backup to Hightower and Collins.

Now normally we’d see Jonathan Freeny step up in this situation, but he was placed on injured reserve yesterday alongside TE Greg Scruggs, further opening the door for Roberts.

With Roberts, I’d also expect to see Barkevious Mingo get some more snaps at a linebacker position today. Another opportunity for a guy to prove himself in another part of the game.

Go Pats.
